Planned Courses For 2011 and 2012 10th and 11th of December 2011: Foundation Licence at Foxton Spring 2012: Foundation Licence at Foxton Summer 2012: Intermediate at Coleridge (Practicals at Foxton over a weekend) Autumn 2012: Foundation at Foxton. We will progressively post the dates on our website as we fix them. The information below will give you an idea of what we can offer and how to contact us to enrol on a Foundation course. General Course Information. We have two, registered venues where we may hold courses and exams. Coleridge Community College (central Cambridge); Foxton Village Hall. (12 kms south west of Cambridge) Our courses use the RSGB books as their basis and are supplemented with addition material. You may download our material (for non-commercial use only) from the links in the CDARC Training Material Section further down the page. We hold our Foundation Licence courses at Foxton Village Hall over a weekend. (The other two courses are conducted at both venues.) You do not have to be a member of CDARC to attend our Foundation course. The Intermediate course we run as a combination of self-study and structured tutorials for our club members. We hold the tutorials on Friday evenings during our fortnightly, regular club meetings at Coleridge Community College. The practical aspects of the Intermediate are concentrated into a weekend at Foxton. The Intermediate requires about 16 to 20 hours of tutorials to cover the syllabus. This takes about 3 months-worth of club evenings. The Advanced exam is held nationally twelve times each year on pre-scribed dates. We offer at the moment a tutorial approach to any member of CDARC who wants to self-study for this exam at their own pace. Foundation Licence Course This is the entry level into amateur radio. We plan to run two Foundation Courses every year. These are normally held in the spring and the autumn. There is the possibility of extra Foundation courses if demand exists and CDARC resources are available. In addition if any external group (eg Scouts, ATC, U3A etc) in the Cambridge area can assemble 6 to 10 candidates we will be pleased to discuss bringing the course to you. Again this is subject to our resources etc. Please contact us if this might interest your group. Our Foundation course take place over a weekend at Foxton Village Hall. Hardman Road, Foxton, Cambridge, CB22 6RN The focus of the course is on the practical aspects of amateur radio with sufficient (simple) theory to allow you to understand the processes going on inside the equipment and radio propagation. No previous experience is necessary. Provided you have a keen interest in becoming a radio amateur the examination on the Sunday afternoon of the course will hold no surprises. Success in the examination means you should have your own M6 callsign by the following weekend! We base the course on the RSGB book: “Foundation Licence Now!” which is available from the RSGB on-line bookshop. In addition you receive our CD-ROM with all the teaching material we use on the course. Intermediate Licence Course We ran our first Intermediate course in 2011 at Foxton and at Coleridge
Community College. The weekend practical session was at Foxton
Village Hall where the course also produced their assessed item. ( A
QRP Tx) A set of course notes is available for each candidate on a CDARC CDROM. We base the course around the RSGB book: Intermediate Licence - Building on the Foundation. We plan to run one Intermediate Course each year starting in the summer. This allows candidates to take a Foundation Course in the spring and achieve their Intermediate Licence within four or five months if they wish. (Candidates may, of course, self-study for the Intermediate at any time without recourse to the planned tutorials. We can arrange an examination when any candidate feels ready to take their test.) We do ask, however, that candidates for the Intermediate course and who wish to take advantage of our offered tutorials) are, or become, members of CDARC in view of the resource cost borne by the club in providing the training. Full
Licence Course
Candidates will self-study for this course supported by structured tutorials. When an individual candidate feels ready to take the examination we will arrange for an examination at Foxton or Coleridge on one of the pre-scribed dates. We do ask, however, that candidates for the Full course and who wish to take advantage of our offered tutorials are, or become, members of CDARC in view of the resource cost borne by the club in providing the training. CDARC Training Material (Downloadable .pdf Files) We provide this material to candidates on our courses. You are welcome to download and use any of this material from our website provided that:
